What is so great about 2008?

I took the opportunity to talk to the kids in Kids of the Spirit on the first Sunday of the year about what they liked best about our church in 2008. Here's what they said.....

"My favorite thing I did at church in 2008 was going through the Bible in Kids of the Spirit. It was my favorite thing in 2008 because I learned a lot of things about the Bible that I didn't know."
Lucas, age 10
"My favorite thing I did at church this year was Trunk or Treat. I think this because we all got together, saw all the scary trunks, and got lots of candy!"
Lewis, age 12
"Learning about the Bible"
Matthew, age 10
"I loved learning about the Bible because I got closer to God."
Donovan, age 11
" I mainly just enjoy being able to go to this church for this is the best church I've ever been to, and I really do love each moment in this wonderful church. The church is like a part time home. Lastly, my old one was not very good."
Anna, age 9
"Our play. Because we sang songs. I'm a very good singer. I absolutely love songs. And my part was easy. I just said a carol is a joyful announcement."
Brianna, age 8
"My favorite thing about this church is how nice everyone is to each other. This is my favorite thing because being around people who are kind will become great in God's eyes."
Mariah, age 9
"My favorite thing to do at church was our Christmas play. And why is because I like performing in front of a crowd."
Alexandra, age 9
"My favorite thing in church is that I learn about God, because I want to be closer to Him."
Nathan, age 10
"My favorite thing in 2008 was playing football in the gym. I like it because it's fun to play with friends."
Tyler, age 11
"My favorite thing about Kids of the Spirit is going to King's Kids. It's fun to be and play with the little kids. It is especially fun when my friends are there too."
Mariana, age 10

Trunk or Treat!

The Hamburger, Cinderella, The Quenn, and Spiderman enjoyed the free hot dog dinner, but were more interested in when Mr. John was going to give the signal for Trunk or Treating!
Bam Bam and Pebbles put in an appearance too. They were surrounded by adoring fans!

Kids of all ages enjoyed the hot dog dinner!

Every year the trunks keep getting better and better! Your creativity amazes me!

Shawn, isn't that your normal weekend look? Great idea, buddy!
In case you can't tell, Jonah cried for help from inside the whale. Don't get too close or you might get wet!

It's Noah!

Leave it to Beaver never had it so good!

After Trunk or Treating, the kids enjoyed the fruits of their labor!

The Trunk Winners!

Trunk or Treat 2008 was a huge success! We enjoyed the company of visitors from the community as well as meeting some of our members' friends and family. We hope that if you were visiting, you'll give us a chance to get to know your family even better! Stop by Sunday morning at 9:00 or Wednesday evening at 7:00. Trunk or Treat would not happen without the leadership of John and Christy Cole. Thank you so much for your servant hearts and your dedication to Christ shown through your love for McKnight kids. Thank you too to the Pieper family( you're the best hot dog cooks we know!), Vicki Bearden (lots of grocery shopping!), and the Jones Family (helping set up). Kudos to all the members who stayed and helped clean up! Lights were out by 8:30! Finally, glory to God for a safe and fun time had by all!

Help Wanted!

God has been so good to us at McKnight! We are being blessed with 70+ children each Sunday morning. With this blessing comes a call to action! I was with Kids of the Spirit this Sunday morning when we were going over announcements. Amazingly, several of the kids had read the bulletin and saw we need help in both King's Kids and Kids' Community. Jennifer just happened to be walking through when over 80% of the kids had their hands raised and were shouting out that they could help in King's Kids or Kids' Community. It was an encouragement to both of us. I have a list of adults who volunteer over and over again. I would love to add your name to that list!
We need volunteers to work:
one Sunday a quarter in King's Kids
teach for a month in King's Kids
small groups to work in Kid's Community
run the check-in system on Sunday mornings
run the check-in system on Wednesday nights
I do not know of one volunteer who has regretted the time they spent working with the kids, but more importantly the time spent serving God. May you prayerfully consider spending your time with the McKnight Kids.

Back To School!

It is a blessing to be so busy that you don't have time to blog! Wow, August was a great month with McKnight Kids! August's Munchin' With The Martins was the biggest of the summer! I don't mean to brag but The Kids of the Spirit know how to come through! Way to go! Seriously, we are so thankful for all the time we got to spend with McKnight families. Your children bless our lives in a very special way!
Baby Dedication and Back to School Sunday was so special! We were so happy to pray and dedicate 22 babies and toddlers to the Lord! He has certainly blessed us with so many new babies and families. It was such a joyous occasion and yet, I found myself thinking of Sean and Wendy Martin and missing Emma. As the weeks go by and big events occur, it is easy to return to our old routines. But that doesn't mean we have forgotten or moved on. The children ministry workers and kids continue to hold Emma precious in our hearts and lift Sean, Wendy, and Ana up to the Lord. We love you and Emma!

It was exciting to see everyone "apple picking"! It is an honor to pray for our children and their teachers! Thanks to everyone who picked a prayer buddy! Please be sure to let your prayer buddy know that they are in your prayers and use this opportunity to create a special bond! I would be remiss if I didn't thank Christy Cole for organizing the harvest!
For our third graders through Junior High, it isn't too late to start Lads to Leaders on Wednesday nights! We would love for you to come and study Joshua with us!
Parents and the Young at Heart, be thinking about how to decorate your trunks! Trunk or Treat will be here before we know it! Make plans now to be there on Oct. 26!

VBS fun!

The Squeaky Beaker Preschool made snack for everyone on the first day. Ms. Lauren was proud to share that no one licked their fingers in the making of the snack!
Ms. Kelly and Ms. Heather are busy leading the Bible Blast center.
Ms. Melissa, Mr. Tony McLaughlin, Ms. Jessica, and her brother, Michael, had all kinds of fun leading the Hyperspeed Games!

Preschool never looked like so much fun! Ms. Katie, Ms. Ann, and Ms. Nancy did a great job leading this area! They can never retire!

Ms. Christy, Ms. Marcia, Ms. Angie, and Ms.Carol are the ladies to call when hair gel and glitter go together!

Font sizeProfessor X along with his assistant, Ms. Dina, were a huge hit in Cinema Science!

Gotta have snack!
Bible Blast discussions!

Cool Crafters!

The kids experienced the miracle of Jesus rising from the dead through this cool science experiment with Diet Coke and mentos! It was a favorite, for sure!

More science expriments in Cinema Science!

The VBS crews

As you can see, VBS was lots of fun! We had about 85 participants with about half being visitors! Congratulations to Lainie who brought the most visitors! Plus, a huge thank you to all the volunteers! VBS wouldn't be possible without your help!
Despite the heat, we had a great time Saturday night hosting Munchin' with the Martins! Jennifer and I were enjoying visiting with everyone so much that we forgot to take pictures! The final Munchin' With the Martins is Saturday, Aug. 9th! It's for Kids of the Spirit, but if you haven't made it yet, come on!
Happy Birthday to Maddy W. (7/31) and Matthew E. (8/4)!
